The MSPEA, established in 2011, has been created by Manchester School’s to pool and share resources, knowledge and skills and provide a collective support and development programme. The MSPEA now has 148 member schools. Led by three strategic managers (SGOs) hosted by Wright Robinson College, Our Lady’s RC High School and William Hulme’s Grammar School, the partnership brings together professionals who are striving to be at the forefront of PE & School Sport; sharing good practice; supporting our schools and ensuring High Quality PE & School Sport opportunities for all Manchester pupils.
In order to inform the programme for 2016-17, PE Subject Leaders and Head Teachers from more than 60 schools have been consulted. This website has been created as a result of requests from the consultation process.
Rachel Redmond, Development Manager, Youth Sport Trust, said “Manchester has an excellent self-supporting PE Association, enabling schools to participate in one of the broadest and most inclusive competition, sports leadership and Change 4 Life programmes in the UK”.
Steve Wheeldon, Headteacher at Wilbraham Primary School said “we have engaged staff and pupils in an active PE and School Sport programme which positively impacts on so many areas of life in school including attendance, behaviour, confidence, motivation and ultimately achievement. The School Games Organisers and MSPEA are central to the co-ordination of so much of this activity.”
Membership
The affiliation fee for academic year 2016-17 is £600 for primary, £550 secondary schools (£350 for single sex schools). This compares very favourably to neighbouring boroughs, for example; one neighbouring Greater Manchester Local Authority charge £5 per pupil for their membership, meaning that a school with 400 pupils would have to pay £2000.
We will continue to work with partners to increase opportunities for your pupils. One example is the Change 4 Life Clubs programme, which has enabled 58 schools to access resources, coaching, professional learning and equipment worth over £2,000 per club.
MSPEA have managed to negotiate a reduced annual membership of the Youth Sport Trust for 2016-17 for all MSPEA members. This is an optional membership with many benefits which will enhance your PE and School Sport provision and help to provide a central national co-ordinating voice for PE, School Sport and Physical Activity.
